RELEASE New Gallery at Postcard from Paris Features Sustainable Artwork Greenville’s first green art gallery opens in West End, showcases one-of-a-kind pieces (Greenville, SC: October 12, 2010) The Gallery at Postcard from Paris, Greenville’s first and only sustainable art gallery, has opened at Postcard from Paris Home in the West End. The gallery features works by artist-in-resident Shannon Plourde, who uses sustainable practices and materials in The Awakening Collection, a sophisticated, fresh, and beautiful expression of floral views, a collection on exhibit now. “Today, having access to art that is created with consideration for the wider impact of the work in relationship to its environment is deeply desirable,” says Linda McDougald, principal and lead interior designer at Postcard from Paris Home | Linda McDougald Design. “Not only is Shannon’s current exhibition created using such guiding principles but the works are also striking on so many levels and would be exquisite additions to a home or collection. It’s truly the best of both – responsible yet radiant.” The canvases used in The Awakening Collection are painted to preserve the environment from start to finish. Locally constructed and stretched with raw and natural fibers, each canvas is conditioned just enough to sustain the permanence of the painting’s substrate. The process omits mediums and incorporates layers of washes filled with ninety percent water to ten percent pigment from earthen matter or dyes. "As an artist, to work in a sustainable process is to be deliberate in material choice and to seize an opportunity to prolong life beyond the aesthetic qualities of a painting,” explains artist Shannon Plourde. “Never by chance, yet always with purpose each natural canvas exists upon my easel to receive organic charcoal form, washes of pigmented water, and a greater purpose to become a part of another’s life. Likewise, the ability to recycle my life’s journey, something worn transforms into something beautiful and recognizable to many, such as flower blossoms awakening to spring."
