My favorite room in my house is the great room. Being off of the kitchen, it is where my company
always tends to gather. The colors in the fabric and accessories are warm and
enveloping and the upholstery tailored and inviting. The room is appealing yet
comfortable and livable.
My favorite piece of furniture that I own is an antique chest of drawers. It is not from an important period
or worth much money, but it was the first piece of furniture I bought, and for
that, I hope to never part with it. The knicks and dents give it charm and character
and help whatever room I put it in feel comfy and lived in.
My favorite pastime is reading. Whether they are design magazines or novels, I love a good read.
Both allow me to exercise my vivid imagination.
My design style would be classified as understated elegance. While I have an appreciation for
all genres of design, I believe that the integrity of a structure and the quality
of the finishes should be what define a space and give it character. Fabrics
and accessories can always be changed to add personality and punch, but if the
bones are not solid, there is no foundation to build on.
My favorite design magazines are Architectural Digest and Traditional Home.
My favorite space to design is a master suite. I believe that it is a great responsibility to be charged
with creating a space that is so personal to the homeowners – a space that serves
as a sanctuary but also a media center, spa, library or office. Finding a harmony
between so many disparate functions can be challenging, but finding the right
solution is incredibly rewarding. Knowing that you've created a space with luxurious
finishes and opulent fabrics that bring someone comfort but also delight is very
satisfying. That is what I strive for.
